Launch of Civil Society Covenant Framework
Last Thursday, 17th October, I was honoured to attend 10, Downing Street where the Prime Minister, Sir Keir Starmer hosted a Civil Society Reception.
Along with many other national and local voluntary sector representatives, the Prime Minister spoke about his priority to reset the government’s relationship with civil society.
As part of this work to reset the relationship, the DCMS have launched a Civil Society Covenant Framework to kickstart a period of engagement throughout the autumn to develop a final Covenant in 2025. A new principle-based Covenant will act as a foundation for this new relationship and will symbolise the UK government’s recognition of civil society as a trusted and independent partner.
The Civil Society Covenant Framework sets out the ambition, scope and key principles that should underpin the new relationship – transparency, recognition, partnership and participation – that the government envisages will form the basis of the future relationship. The Covenant Framework and further details can be viewed here.
The government would like to hear your views and that of your affiliated clubs and your wider networks so that as many people and organisations are able to have input into the conversation and share what they would like to see in this covenant. To share views and ideas directly please go to NCVO’s webpage or send written communication to DCMS until 12th December.
For any questions or feedback, please contact civilsocietycovenant@dcms.gov.uk
Equally, please feel free to email me your thoughts and I will forward on to the DCMS.
