YOUTH ACCELERATOR FUNDING PROJECT
Just before the COVID19 pandemic struck and the lockdown was imposed, the National Association of Boys & Girls Clubs (NABGC) were awarded £200,000 by Sport England to deliver positive activities to young people in local youth clubs and projects.
The funding was made available by the government as part of their Youth Accelerator funding programme announced in October of 2019.
The aim of the funding is to improve and increase services for young people by ensuring that they are at the heart of the planning and delivery of the services available. Key outcomes for the Youth Accelerator Fund include – improving skills of young people, improved physical and emotional wellbeing, improved aspirations and increased participation in their community.
A total of 11 counties will receive funding from this project.
Mark Brine, Chair of NABGC, said, “NABGC welcomes this funding. It will allow a number of our members to increase the level and range of positive activities delivered to young people in the most deprived communities. There is also an opportunity to build on the great work already taking place in local youth clubs up and down the country.”
The funding was confirmed just prior to the lockdown and so unfortunately hasn’t been able to progress. However, the funding is still available and the project will commence as soon as the restrictions ease sufficiently and activities can be delivered in a safe manner.
